1 Day Quijos River
The Quijos is Ecuador’s premier whitewater trip with mile after mile of class IV rapids and spectacular rainforest and basalt canyon scenery. Expect to run more whitewater in a day here than you’d do in a week elsewhere. These trips are for experienced rafters or adventurous first-timers that are confident swimmers. No wimps please!
The day starts when we pick you up at 7.00am from you hotel or our Meeting Point at Magic Bean on the corner of Foch y Juan León Mera. Travel east up across the páramo and down through beautiful cloud forest to the Rios Ecuador base in the Quijos valley.
The trip will take about two and a half hours. After a short drive to the put-in the Trip Leader will give a thorough safety briefing and conduct a swim test. Then you’ll split into groups for an intensive in-boat paddle practice with your guide. You’ll be thankful there are some easier rapids to warm up on before we hit the big technical rapids of the river’s upper anyons. We take on the very same rapids that challenged two hundred and fifty of the world’s best rafters as they battled it out in 2005 to be crowned World Champions. But don’t panic – it was our years of experience running the Quijos that convinced us to invite them all to compete on this truly remarkable river. No-one has rafted the Quijos for as long or as often as Rios Ecuador. So rest assured you can be in no better hands.
Rafting time approximately 2½ hrs. During the trip we’ll stop by the side of the river for a snack and then waiting for us at the take-out will be a delicious picnic lunch including fresh tropical fruits and served with soft drinks, juice and water. And of course we celebrate a fun day on the river with an ice-cold beer. After lunch we head back to Quito. Arrival time is pproximately 6.30 pm but may be earlier or later depending on the river level and traffic conditions.
Pick you up from your hotel or from our Meeting Point at Magic Bean (7.00am corner of Foch y Juan León Mera).
